Welcome to Top 10 Tuesday! This is a weekly challenge hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl, and this week’s challenge is about books on my spring 2021 TBR!
As dorky as it sounds, one of my favorite things to do when I’m bored is stare dreamily at my bookshelves and think about when I can read all of the books on my shelves. You’d think this time would be better spent actually reading said books (and you’d be right), but oh well! I just can’t help myself. That being said, I don’t set a specific TBR list for myself. Within each genre on my shelves, I have certain books that are a higher priority than others. But still, I keep that in mind when picking my next book to read, but in the end decide to read whatever I’m in the mood for. At first, I wasn’t sure how to approach this prompt because of this. I was thinking about just listing my “top priority” book for each genre, even though I definitely won’t get to all of those in spring (maybe not even in 2021).
However, then I remembered that I do follow a more structured TBR for my audiobooks! For the most part, I just go in the order in which I purchased them (with exceptions here and there). This year, I’ve been doing this, but while also following a set pattern to help me reach my reading goals for 2021. Basically, I go to the “bottom” of my library (I scroll down to the oldest, not-yet-downloaded book), start there and then work my way up in this order: fiction, nonfiction, classic, repeat. Therefore, I have a pretty predictable line-up for my spring 2021 audiobooks. I certainly won’t follow this exactly, especially with Spring Break coming up. I typically listen to audiobooks while I get ready for work and sometimes when I do chores, so over Spring Break I might choose some other, shorter audiobooks to focus on instead simply because I’ll have less time to listen to them. We shall see! But for now, here are my top 10 audiobooks on my spring 2021 TBR!
1. “A Life on Our Planet: My Witness Statement and a Vision for the Future” by Sir David Attenborough
Genre: Autobiography
I’m so excited for this one! I know the narration will be fantastic, and I’m excited to learn more about this topic. And afterward, I’m excited to watch the accompanying documentary on Netflix!

2. “Persuasion” by Jane Austen
Genre: Classic
To be honest, I don’t really know anything about this one, and I’ve never read anything by Jane Austen before! It’s pretty short though, so it won’t be too much of a commitment if it ends up not being my thing. I’ve really been enjoying getting to read more classics lately though!

3. “And the Mountains Echoed” by Khaled Hosseini
Genre: Historical Fiction
I’ve read both A Thousand Splendid Suns and The Kite Runner, and they were both phenomenal. I absolutely cannot wait to read this one as well. It’s also at least partially narrated by the author! He narrated the Kite Runner and did a fantastic job, so I’m really excited to listen to this one too.

4. “Our Harlem” by Marcus Samuelsson
Genre: Nonfiction
I downloaded this while I was reading The Rise (a cookbook) by Marcus Samuelsson. I just find him to be so talented and interesting, and I’m really excited to check out this short audiobook!

5. “Sense and Sensibility” by Jane Austen
Genre: Classic
I’m just now realizing I have two Jane Austen novels back-to-back in terms of my upcoming classics, so hopefully I end up being a Jane Austen fan! If I don’t end up being a huge fan of Persuasion, I could always choose a different classic novel for this slot and come back to Sense and Sensibility later after having a longer break from the first novel of hers that I listened to. We’ll see what happens!

6. “If I Never Met You” by Mhairi McFarlane
Genre: Romance
This one sounds really cute! I don’t read romance very often, but sometimes I just need something light and fun to mix things up!

7. “The President’s Kitchen Cabinet” by Adrian Miller
Genre: Nonfiction
I discovered this one while reading The Rise by Marcus Samuelsson. I looked it up online, and was thrilled to discover that it was actually included with my Audible membership at no additional cost! I was so fascinated by the culinary history that I learned while reading The Rise, and I can’t wait to learn more through this audiobook!

8. “Crime and Punishment” by Fyodor Dostoevsky
Genre: Classic
To be completely honest, I’m really intimidated by this one. It’s about 20 hours long, so it’s a big commitment and I’m not sure if I’ll connect with it or be able to follow it. We’ll see if I’m brave enough to attempt it when the time comes, or if I’ll maybe choose a shorter classic to try first instead? I definitely want to attempt this one though, so hopefully I’ll have the courage to dive in when this one comes up on my list!

9. “Nerve” by Jeanne Ryan
Genre: YA Fiction
This one came on my radar after seeing a bunch of movie trailers for it. It seemed like an interesting premise! I never actually ended up seeing the movie, but this one ended up being included with my Audible membership so I decided to go for it! I typically enjoy YA fiction, so I’m looking forward to this one.

10. “My Soul Looks Back” by Jessica B. Harris
Genre: Memoir
This is another one I discovered through reading Marcus Samuelsson’s The Rise, and it was also included with my Audible membership! I’ve discovered that I really enjoy reading memoirs, so I’m really excited to check out this one by a prominent figure in the culinary world. I’m sure I’ll learn a lot!
