Top 10 Tuesday: Books on My Summer 2021 TBR

Welcome to Top 10 Tuesday! This is a weekly challenge hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl, and this week’s challenge is about books on my summer 2021 TBR!

I’m horrible at sticking to TBRs, but I figured for this post I’d try to pick out ten books that I’m hoping to get to this summer! Only time will tell if I’m actually able to do it… Based on my previous track record: Probably not. But that’s okay! Even if it’s not this summer, I’m still really excited to get to all of these! Without further ado, here are the 10 books at the top of my summer 2021 TBR pile!

1. “The Glass Castle” by Jeannette Walls

This one has been on my TBR pretty much all year! Ever since I made it my goal to read more nonfiction this year, this one has been at the top of my nonfiction list. So far, though, most of the nonfiction I’ve read has been via audiobooks (and I own this one as a physical book). Hopefully I’ll finally be able to get to it this summer!

2. “The Help” by Kathryn Stockett

This is another one that’s been on my TBR for a long time. I got this book probably about ten years ago, so I’d really like to finally read it and see if it was worth the wait! I’ve been trying to prioritize books that I’ve had for a while, and this is probably one of the oldest books I have left on my shelves (in terms of how long it’s been in my possession, not how old the book itself is).

3. “Love Is A Revolution” by Renée Watson

I’m so excited to read this one!! I’ve recently become a huge fan of Renée Watson. I even just finished reading aloud one of her middle grade books with my class! Her YA novel “Piecing Me Together” is one of my favorites, so I can’t wait to read her latest YA book!

4. “Fun Home” by Alison Bechdel

I’ve read one graphic memoir before and it was great! I think it may actually be the only graphic novel I’ve ever read. While I can’t say I’m a huge fan of graphic novels (it’s just not my personal preference), I think when done well they can be really excellent, so I’m excited to check this one out!

5. “Children of Blood and Bone” by Tomi Adeyemi

This cover is gorgeous and I’ve heard great things about this book! I also just bought the sequel (even though I haven’t read the first installment yet, oops), so I’d like to try to get to both this summer!

6. “With the Fire on High” by Elizabeth Acevedo

This is another one that’s been on my TBR for a while. And ever since I read The Poet X, it got bumped up even higher on my TBR! I feel pretty confident that I’ll be able to get to this one this summer, and I can’t wait!

7. “Crazy Rich Asians” by Kevin Kwan

I really enjoyed the movie adaptation of this one! And I figure since the book is always better than the movie, then the books must be great too! I actually have managed to collect all the books in this series through thrift shopping, so I’d like to get through all of them this summer if possible!

8. “Furia” by Yamile Saied Méndez

I typically really enjoy Reese’s Book Club picks, and when I saw this one (last year?) I just couldn’t resist that beautiful cover! I got it right away, but haven’t actually had a chance to read it yet. I can’t wait!

9. “Jurassic Park” by Michael Crichton

While I think the first Jurassic Park movie is great (and iconic), I was really not a fan of the first Michael Crichton book that I read last year (“Sphere”). And that’s putting it nicely, because I had some strong thoughts and feelings about it. That being said, I thought the overall concept was interesting! And I know that I like the premise of Jurassic Park from having seen the movies. My goal is to get to them this summer to determine my opinion once and for all on Michael Crichton books, because maybe I just shouldn’t have started with Sphere and the others will be fine! I’m not too optimistic, but I’d like to know one way or the other and get them off my shelves if they end up not bringing me joy.

10. “I Am Not Your Perfect Mexican Daughter” by Erika L. Sánchez

I think this one’s being made into a movie (by America Ferrera, I believe?)! I’d like to read it before the adaptation comes out. It sounds so interesting, and I hope to get to it soon!
