Welcome to Top 10 Tuesday! This is a weekly challenge hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl, and this week’s challenge is about my dad’s favorite books!
The original prompt was about my top 10 books of 2021, but I’m not quite ready to do that yet. I’m still in the middle of reading a few books that I’m hoping to finish by the end of the year, and who knows, maybe they’ll end up being some of my favorites! Therefore, I’m going to wait until 2021 is officially over before finalizing my list. However, since today is my dad’s birthday, I wanted to celebrate him by sharing some of his favorite books! We typically read very different kinds of books, so it will be fun to see some new books making an appearance on my blog! My dad is passionate about many things including business, health, public health, history, cycling, and more, and these passions definitely show in his selection for his top 10 (and then some!) favorite books.
Happy birthday, Dad! I love you, and thank you for supporting my blog and all of my endeavors in life! Without further ado, here are my dad’s 10+ favorite books!

This was such a fun exercise! I do these top 10 exercises frequently as a book blogger and I know how challenging they can be, so it was really fun to include someone else and get their perspective this week! I definitely want to do more posts like this in the future with other family and friends.

Thank you for sharing your dad’s favorite books. Happy birthday to him! If I had done this for my dad, it would have been a list of Louis L’amor books, as those are the only books I remember him ever reading. He loved westerns, so he may have read a Larry McMurtry book or two as well.

I was actually looking for a book about Da Vinci, and lo — I find a rec from you here. Thanks, I’m going to look up the Isaacson book. And of course, Know my Name and 7 Habits are both powerful, landmark books.

What a fun topic. Now I’m curious what my own dad’s favorite books would be. I know some of his enduring childhood favorites like The Wind in the Willows and Dr. Dolittle (he was rereading the latter last Christmas and having a blast), but nowadays he usually just picks up random nonfiction to browse through, often stuff about our home state, nature, or Ireland/Scotland/the English countryside. Every so often he’ll read through a not-too-gritty mystery novel/detective series by authors like Alexander McCall Smith. Oh, and he did really enjoy The Lost Spells by Robert Macfarland earlier this year.
I can’t quite picture him reading anything off this list, though…

What an interesting take on the idea! I’m loving the range of nonfiction selections here––race, infrastructure, medicine, memoir––your dad is a much better nonfiction reader than I could ever hope to be 😂
