Top 10 Tuesday: Books I Was SO EXCITED to Get, But Still Haven’t Read

Welcome to Top 10 Tuesday! This is a weekly challenge hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl, and this week’s challenge is about books I was SO EXCITED to get, but still haven’t read!

There are so many books I could have chosen for this topic! I’m always so excited to get new books, but it usually takes me a while before I actually get around to reading them. Some of these were gifts that I was so excited to get, and some were books that I just couldn’t resist buying myself. But for whatever reason, I just haven’t gotten around to reading them yet. Without further ado, here are the top ten books I was so excited to get, but haven’t read yet (in no particular order)!

1. Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen

This is the book that’s been on my TBR the longest. I got it in high school, and I’m not even sure why at this point. I had never read any Jane Austen, but it was a pretty cover and I had heard of it, and it probably made me feel like I was buying a more grown up book. I remember I was shopping for the first time at a particular independent bookstore near my house, and I was excited to be shopping there and supporting this store! Hopefully I’ll get around to reading it soon!

2. Quiet by Susan Cain

I’ve been wanting to read this one forever, and I finally was able to get a copy of it (I forget exactly when, but it was less than a year ago)! I’ve read the adaptation for young readers, but I really want to read this original version. I’ve heard great things, and I love reading about introversion from such a positive and empowering perspective. I’m hoping to read this over the summer.

3. The Night Tiger by Yangsze Choo

I remember I got this one from Barnes & Noble. Hardcover books were on sale, and I was just so entranced by this cover! I knew I didn’t need it (I’m well aware of my habit of buying books and then taking forever to actually read them), but my husband saw how excited I was and bought it for me. I put this one on my Spring TBR for this year, so I’m hoping to get to it sometime this month!

4. Rise to the Sun by Leah Johnson

I read You Should See Me in a Crown and loved it, so when this book came out I was so excited to add it to my collection! This one was actually a birthday gift from my husband, and I’m not sure why I haven’t read it yet! I’m still really excited to read it, though, and my current plan is to read it in June for Pride Month!

5. You Changed My Life by Abdel Sellou

The French movie The Intouchables is one of my all-time favorite movies. I first watched it in college, and was so excited to discover it was based on a book! I can’t wait to read it and learn more about the true story that inspired the movie.

6. The Princess Bride by William Goldman

The Princess Bride is also one of my all-time favorite movies! It bugs me that there are so many times when I can say, “Well I haven’t read the book, but I’ve seen the movie!” This especially bugs me since I know the book is almost always better. Well, I’m excited to read this one (hopefully soon)!

7. The Girl with All the Gifts by M.R. Carey

My mom got this one for herself, but I saw it and convinced her to let me hold on to it because I really wanted to read it. And yet… I still haven’t. Sorry Mom! (And just to be clear, my mom has already read it! I’ve just been hogging her copy of it.)

8. Anxious People by Fredrik Backman

The premise of this book sounds fascinating to me, and I love the cover! I got this one as a gift and was so excited to receive it, but still haven’t read it!

9. You Had Me at Hola by Alexis Daria

I don’t read a lot of romance, but the premise of this one sounded so fun. I’m excited to (hopefully) read it soon!

10. So Many Beginnings by Bethany C. Morrow

I absolutely loved Little Women, and I was so intrigued to see this modern, YA adaptation of this classic story! Hopefully I’ll get to it soon!

Have you read any of these books? What would your top ten be?

Let me know in the comments!

  1. I still have my mom copy of The Princess Bride. It one of her all time favorite books and she haven’t ask for it back yet. I been thinking of getting her an illustrated edition.

  2. Great list! P&P is a super fun read, as is THE PRINCESS BRIDE. ANXIOUS PEOPLE is also a good one. It took a little while for me to get into it, but once I did, I really enjoyed it. QUIET and SO MANY BEGINNINGS are two I also want to read. I hope you enjoy all these when you get to them!

    Happy TTT!
